Puddle at the bottom of the hill. Kids at the bottom of the hill.

A little known thing about the UK is that they have this incredible generation gap. The kids hate the adults and the adults are terrified of the kids. I spent three months over there and couldn’t believe it. It was like A Clockwork Orange in some places – people fleeing as hoodies (called because teens would wear hoodies to avoid detection with the CCTV system as they committed crimes) would come near. The Surliest Birds

surliestbirdsWe Surly Birds love nature and animals and all that bullcrap. We also have a unique insight into avian culture (that being the inspiration for our namesake). So, as a service to you, we decided to go through and highlight some of nature’s surliest birds so you know what to look out for when you’re out there roughing it in the Alaskan wilderness or whatever. It’s the least we could do.

The Sleepover Effect

This issue can also be referred to as “The Most Annoying Kind of Self-Fulfilling Prophecy Ever”. It refers to a childhood phenomena whereas I would come home after spending the night at a friend’s house and my parents would automatically assume I was “grouchy” or in a “bad mood”.

I Still Hate Vegetables

Isn’t this something you’re supposed to grow out of? Hating broccoli and green beans and all the other things located in the vegetable region of the food pyramid? I don’t care if he’s retired, if all he does is golf and smoke cigars, get him in some commercials and I guarantee you’ll see a solid ROI. At least Gatorade gets it…

Sell Outs

selloutsIf there’s one thing that just makes us mad it’s claiming some band is a “sell out.” It’s a favorite of music snobs all over the country. You discover them in some disgusting bar or off-the-beaten-path coffeehouse and love them. A few years later they sign with a big label and are all over the place – MTV, VH1, your mom’s iPod. But here’s the thing, we fully understand when you decide you don’t like the new direction they took with their music, but we can’t understand when you don’t like them because they’re sell outs.

Driving Thoughts

drivingFor me, driving is an experience that alternates from being horrible, incredible and terrifying. I’ve managed to wrangle some thoughts on the issue and I’d love for you to add some of your own.
