I’ve Been Kissed By a Rose.

kissfromaroseMovie soundtracks are usually  star studded affairs – depending on the budget of the movie or its indie cred. Batman Forever was no different. Featuring songs by U2, Method Man, Brandy, The Flaming Lips and more (remember, this was pretty impressive for 1995). But there was one song that outshone all the others – its star even burned brighter than the God awful movie – and that was Kiss From a Rose by Seal.

So last night I was minding my own business, looking up baseball stats or a food recipe or reading the plot of a movie I was watching so I wouldn’t have to wait for the ending and I was playing music. I keep my iTunes on random at all times. It’s just easier. And, out of nowhere, Kiss From a Rose came on.

When it did, time stopped. I closed my eyes and let Seal take me away. From the choral kind of harmony to the words that don’t make any sense – it’s perfect. That’s why I’m now making a bold statement. Kiss From a Rose is the best movie soundtrack song ever.

Yes. I understand it was previously released – but no one that hears that song cares. It’s the Batman Song. In fact, I’d say that Kiss From a Rose is the horrible director Joel Schumacher’s best contribution to society (seriously, look him up on IMDB, everything he does is horrible).

There’s a few other ones that get close:

  • Gangster’s Paradise: This song is incredible but it should be noted that it was ruined because Coolio went batshit crazy – stealing things, feuding with Weird Al, etc.
  • I Am Sam soundtrack – Too indie and Beatles-y to be the best of all time, but still awesome.
  • Say: John Mayer did this for The Bucket List. Good. No where close to Kiss From a Rose
  • Eye of the Tiger: This one is great, almost perfect. It’s a little too old though. It had its time. I was about to say you couldn’t really make love to this song, but then realized you could and it’d be incredible. A close second.
  • Jurassic Park Theme Song: If this had words it’d be #1 by a mile. But it doesn’t. So it isn’t.
  • Highway to the Danger Zone: Top Gun was awesome. This song was awesome. You could also make love to this song, so it passes that test too. But it just doesn’t have the multi-listenability of Seal.
  • Unchained Melody: When the movie Ghost whipped out this Righteous Brothers classic, I was hooked. However, Whoopi Goldberg feelin’ on Patrick Swayze is what this makes me think of. Seal makes me think of Heidi Klum and Nicole Kidman and sweet Batman stuff. So, no deal.

Ok. That’s all I can think of for now. What am I missing? Do you disagree? Let’s get into a god damn argument on this one. Give it to us in the comments and we’re gonna come right back at you, you sons of bitches.

Some other classics: I’m Alright by Kenny Loggins, Caddyshack; Axel F by Harold Faltermeyer (also did the Top Gun Theme, although both have the no lyrics problem), Beverly Hills Cop; Ghostbusters by Ray Parker, Jr.

It should be known that while Ghostbusters was the best movie of the 80’s, the song has one main point where it fails – you can’t make love to it. I mean you could, and it’d be funny, but with Seal, it’s gonna take things to another level.

That’s a tough one though. Real tough.

You could definitely make love to “You’re the Best”. That’d really plus the whole experience.

‘No easy way out’ – survivor, rocky iv soundtrack. Backdrop to the best montage ever, and it’s actually a lovesong adapted to summing up the last 3 rocky movies/current challenge. So you could totally make love to it.

My God. I just read this, and now I have to go out for a “night on the town” with that damn song in my head. Not cool.
